delicious

I think delicious is really going to be beneficial for me. Just like everyone else I like the fact that you can bookmark your sites and then are able to get at them from any computer. It is kind of like insurance. I had a modem problem a few weeks back which put me a little behind when I had to use another computer and didn't have all the sites I had on my computer. Hopefully this won't be a problem anymore. I also was talking to some colleagues, one who also used delicious. We are now able to share, and explore common sites. I am excited about this and think it will help with our collaborating and planning. Thanks for sharing this site with us. I have just started bookmarking on delicious and am anxious to add to it.

Here is the link to mine.

Lutes Kindergarten Podcast

I created a podcast that is in the form of my weekly newsletter. I review and now "show" what has gone on in the classroom and preview what will come in the week or weeks ahead. I also am including a who's who in the podcast format, to familiarize the families of other staff in the building or new students in our class. I created it in IMovies, used most of my own photos, but got some from google images. I used freeplaymusic because I was familiar with it, and it was easy to use. I had some trouble creating a link from podbean to discussion board but hopefully have that issue resolved. While this project wasn't "difficult" I do hope it becomes easier the more I use it and become familiar with it.

Final Podcast Proposal

Final Project Proposal Kris Lutes

Purpose of my Podcast
The purpose of this podcast is to inform the classroom parents of curriculum expectations and happenings in our classroom or throughout the building that pertain to kindergarten students.
Podcast Description
My podcast will be intended mainly for my students’ parents but may be beneficial for my students to view as well. I will broadcast weekly on Friday. This will be similar to my weekly newsletter. The podcast will allow me to share more information and “show” parents some of their child’s school experiences. Hopefully this will be helpful in encouraging more parental/school interactions. The podcast would contain past and upcoming information. I hope to include video, photos and audio of events that have taken place in our room. I also will include the next week’s unit of studies so the parents are aware of what we are doing in the classroom and may provide support at home. I can also address particular homework assignments. I will host the production. (If it catches on maybe we could rotate the host spot to other members of the kindergarten team?!) After that, perhaps after some practice I/we would be able to have some “guest spots” that involved the students. I would like to include a Who’s Who portion in the podcast. This may be introducing parents (and students) to teachers or staff that the children interact with but don’t necessarily see on a day-to-day basis. I also thought a section like this may be beneficial for introducing new students in our classroom throughout the year. The length of the podcast would be determined by the amount of information given each week. I would think it may be three or four minutes to no more than ten minutes. The state and local objectives could be included as they pertain to the information given each week as well. I think this form of “newsletter” may be the way of communicating with 21st century families.

Animoto - Kindergarten Embedded

Animoto -Kindergarten

I really enjoyed using Animoto. I created this with two ideas in mind. First I plan to use it next week as an introduction for our Parent Meeting for Kindergarten Round-up. I thought it would give a brief overview of what one might see in a typical Kindergarten Day. My second idea was to use it with the students to give them ideas of what they might want to write about in their daily journals. I found picnik very easy to use. I cropped a few pictures, changed the color, added text, borders and speech bubbles. I will definitely use picnik again for school and personal use. I also was pleased with the ease of using freeplay music and thought the selection was amazing. To be honest I was nervous in beginning this project but everything was so easy to use and I was pleased with the outcome. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Hi, my name is Kris Lutes.I am originally from Scribner, Nebraska and graduated from Chadron State College with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education 28 years ago. In the past twenty eight years, as I followed my husband in his career I have been a substitute in Grand Island, a preschool teacher in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a kindergarten teacher and day care director in Colorado Springs, Colorado and a Head Start/Early Childhood Special Education Teacher and a Kindergarten teacher in Des Moines, Iowa and for the past two years back home in Nebraska as a Kindergarten teacher for Millard Public Schools at Walt Disney Elementary. Education has always been very important to me and my family as I have two grown daughters in education as well. I have always enjoyed working with the young children and I am enjoying that experience in my personal life as well as I have two young grandsons.

I have a MacBook at school and a PC at home. Since beginning the cohort program I spend 95% of my time using a MAC. We have MACs at school. I have three in my classroom and access to a computer lab as well as thirty laptops on a cart. The upper grades at my school were suppose to get SMARTBOARDS this year and the lower grades sometime after that. We are still waiting. Having not grown up using computers and access at school very limited until the past two years my technology abilities are limited. In the classroom, we use Successnet to support our curriculum, pbskids, and starfall. I am using Microsoft Office 2008. I really hope to learn helpful information in this course that I can utilize in the classroom and personally.

I had been thinking about getting my Master's Degree for several years (when we became empty nesters) but couldn't quite find the right fit for me. When we decided to move to Nebraska from Iowa it was one of the best personal decisions my husband and I made, being close to our daughters, grandsons, and family however, it was not the best choice financially as Nebraska's teachers salaries are far lower than Iowa. So I continued my search for a Master's Program. I talked with several colleagues and heard very good things about Peru and I liked the idea of the online cohort program including the time frame. I have had many experiences in education and wanted to put my experiences with additional educational experiences to become a Master Teacher. In doing so it will benefit me educationally and financially, and more importantly it is my hopes that my students will benefit as well.
